what do our dreams mean?

Dreams have always been a fascinating concept for me.

How does our brain take us somewhere unconsciously? What do dreams mean? Why do we dream? Where am I? Why can they be so random?

The scientific research on dreams tells us about the different chemicals that are active, inactive, and the sleep cycle we dream in (REM).

I’m not going to get into that.

What intrigues me the most however, is that scientists and researchers actually don’t have all the answers.

There is no real answer to why we dream.

This leaves the space for interpreting dreams wide open.

There are so many theories about the purpose of dreams.

Let’s explore this topic together. Are you curious about your dreams?

Personally, I think most dreams are based on the individual, their experiences, and most importantly emotions.

And there are those common dreams that we all have such as, falling or being chased.

There are also different types of dreams:

-
Recurring
-
Lucid (you can learn to control your dreams!)
-
Nightmares
-
Vivid
-
Healing
-
Prophetic
And more!

But I think different dreams serve different purposes…or maybe it’s just my interpretation?

My dream experiences are wild.

I dream every night. Well, research says that we have 4-6 dreams per night but can’t recall them.

I can recall one or two of my dreams per night, but never in detail.

My dreams are usually about how I’ve been feeling lately and, what I’ve been thinking about.

Occasionally, dreams about a spider also pop into my head. Honestly, this is no joking matter. I’m terrified of them.

I find myself quietly screaming just as I am waking up from my spider dreams.

Then I have those random dreams where I have no clue about where I am and who the people are or what I’m doing there.

I also tend to sleep talk (haha).

For the past few months, I’ve been dreaming about high school, the students, and one particular person from high school.

It’s been 6 years since my high school journey ended. I don’t think about it, nor do I feel a certain way about high school now.

So why am I having dreams about it 6 years later?!

My panic attacks started in high school, and I know that it’s been a traumatic experience so that could be one explanation.

Maybe its trauma that’s been suppressed in my subconscious that is signalling to get some healing.

I have no idea.

Regardless, it’s quite interesting.

I think the way that we’ve been created is quite amazing.

Our body knows to relax our muscles during sleep so we don’t act out our dreams and hurt ourselves.

Isn’t that wonderful?

I’ve also had many confrontational dreams in the past that kind of foreshadow what will happen.

Some are healing and peaceful. Some I’d really not see come true, but they do.

I don’t think this is me predicting the future.

I genuinely think that the feelings and thoughts that go into my subconscious get the opportunity to come forth in my dreams and make sense of what I find hard to figure out when I am awake.

Or repress.

Almost like signs but you already deeply knew it anyway.

I am going to start jotting down my dreams every morning to find a pattern or make sense of what is going on in my subconscious.

Can you recall any of your dreams? What do you think they’re telling you?

Read, share, comment, and let me know what you think!
