Harry Potter Review
*NO SPOILERS*

Harry Potter is one of my favourite things to talk about. There’s sooooo much to the books and movies.

I remember when I first started reading the books; no, it wasn’t when I was a kid. Although, I am glad I discovered this amazingness later on because I can appreciate it more.

I always saw or heard something that was Harry Potter related everywhere I went.

I wanted to know what all the hype was about.

Best decision I ever made!

I read the first 3 books swiftly and then I took some time with the Goblet of Fire.

The Order of the Phoenix took me forever to finish. Have you seen the size of that book?

I prefer the books to the movies (of course). The detail is insane and gives 100000 times more emotion than the movies.

On the other hand, the movies really did bring the magic to life.
The scenery, characters, costume designs were all so beautiful.

I wish Cinemas did a ‘Harry Potter Movies Replay’,- where the Harry Potter films can be played again and in 3D!
This would be an amazing experience!
Something that really fascinated me when I started reading the Philosopher’s Stone (the first book of the Harry Potter series) was how JK Rowling predicted that Harry Potter would be widely known.

She wrote as Professor McGonagall, “He’ll be famous—a legend—I wouldn’t be surprised if today was known as Harry Potter day in the future—there will be books written about Harry—every child in our world will know his name!”

Before she could even finish writing the Deathly Hallows, Harry Potter became a household name!

Synopsis

I’m going to attempt to give a very brief summary so that I don't give away anything major.

So…Harry Potter is about a young boy (Harry Potter duh) who is a wizard and lives with his aunt, uncle, and cousin.

His parents were killed by an evil wizard called Voldemort (the dude shown below without a nose) when Harry was a baby.

At the age of 11 he finds out that he’s a wizard and joins Hogwarts School of Witchcraft and Wizardry.

This is where he is introduced to the wizard world, meets everyone and, also where a lot of shit goes down. This is very fun to see by the way!

Hermione Granger and Ron Weasley become his best friends.

I recommend reading the books and then watching the movies. The books make you feel more connected to the characters and then you can spot the changes made in the movies and see all the magic!

Characters

The characters that I am mainly interested in are:

Voldemort, Snape, Draco, Neville, Fred, George, and Dumbledore.

JK Rowling shows great insight into why the characters become/behave the way that they do.

She does this by going into the character’s past and/or childhood through different elements such as, memory.

These insightful moments are actually one of my favourite bits. This is because I have a genuine interest in Human Psychology, so I like to know what shapes humans (characters in this case) to behave in certain ways.

We also get to witness the characters grow on screen as the years go by and their greatest strengths as well as weaknesses come to show.

I think JK Rowling really liked to play around with her characters, animals, and my feelings.

So many great plot twists! And I am not going to talk further about this because I’m very close to spilling some tea.

Connection To The Real World

When I was reading the books and watching the movies full of fictional things, I was able to make a lot of connections to the real world; the UK particularly.

I believe that there are many hidden meanings behind everything that happens especially in regards to school, the Government and media.
The use of propaganda (fake news), paparazzi, rumours and journalists have all been portrayed so well in the books and movies.

Some time after, I found an interview of JK Rowling. In this interview she said, " I created a fantasy world and wrote a fictional story with many references to the real world as this was the safest way to do so." I paraphrased what she said because I don't remember her exact words!

Nonetheless, you should definitely watch the Harry Potter movies and read the books if you haven't already!

And if you have watched and read the books, look out for references and hidden meanings the next time you watch the movies.
We both know that there will be a next time!

I hope you enjoyed this quick read!
