the fresh prince of bel-air review
*NO SPOILERS*

‘The Fresh Prince of Bel-Air’ alongside ‘Friends’ are my favourite sitcoms to watch.

This show is hilarious, sentimental, and speaks up on the racism in society.

I must have watched the Fresh Prince for the first time a couple years ago when it was on Netflix (UK), and it’s still something that I go back to watch!

So, what is ‘The Fresh Prince of Bel-Air’ about?

Synopsis
‘The Fresh Prince of Bel-Air’ is a sitcom that first aired in 1990 and continued for 6 years (6 seasons).

It’s about a young boy called Will from Philadelphia, who gets sent away by his mum to live with his wealthy Uncle Phil and Aunt Vivian in Bel-Air.

Will is played by Will Smith and his real persona is shown on the show.

Honestly, that’s just one of the many things that makes this show so great!

Will moves to Bel-Air, and lives with his uncle, aunt, and cousins – Ashley, Hilary, and Carlton Banks.

He soon notices how different they all are.

His cousins are spoilt, posh, and wear formal clothing whereas, Will wears snapbacks and baggy clothes.

Uncle Phil and Will clash a lot, but their relationship’s growth is wonderfully portrayed throughout the seasons.

Likes
I love how this sitcom portrays black people.

It shows their authenticity, history, and heart.

Uncle Phil is represented as a hard working and responsible man that takes good care of his family.

I’m not trying to give anything away so it’s so hard to speak about specific moments haha.

Aunt Vivian is a powerful, confident woman that can also kick ass.

And Will brings his playful self, making the show what it is today.

I believe ‘The Fresh Prince of Bel-Air’ was ahead of its time.

It teaches family values, and what hard work can achieve.

Unfortunately, many of the racist events shown in this show are still relevant today.

This highlights the importance of continuing to combat racism in our system, and society.

There is absolutely nothing that I dislike about this show.

Recommendation
I highly recommend watching this show if you haven’t already (a bit hard to believe if you haven’t)!

It’s funny, sweet, and educational.

It has its trials and tribulations, moments of reconciliation, and everything in between!

Which episode from ‘The Fresh Prince of Bel-Air’ is your favourite? What do you like from this show? Have you watched the reunion?
