cruella (2021) review
*NO SPOILERS*
Synopsis
‘Cruella’ is a movie based on Cruella de Vil from 101 Dalmatians (which I must admit I haven’t watched).
​
Cruella (played by Emma Stone) named Estella by her mother originally, is a sweet girl born with grey hair on one side of her head.
​
She gets bullied frequently at school because of her unique look but she’s not one to play victim.
​
She fights back every time and eventually gets expelled.
​
She also aspires to make it as a fashion designer.
​
After some trials and tribulations, she starts to embrace her more ruthless side and shows of her talent extravagantly however, at this point she’s not trying to just make it, she wants to destroy her competitor – Baroness Von Hellman.
​
Unfortunately, I can’t tell you why she wants to embrace her ruthless side and destroy her competitor because that will spoil some plot twists!
Likes

I like how Cruella’s backstory is narrated and there are quite a few plot twists.
​
It’s based in London, so I like the familiarity as a lot of shows and movies are American.
​
Cruella’s fashion looks are pleasing to look at and it’s fun to watch!
Dislikes
​
Most of the story line, climax and plot twists are predictable.
​
The movie misses a major emotional aspect.
​
There are moments in the movie that could have been more emotionally intense to build sympathy for Cruella.
​
It would have been great to know more about the other characters backgrounds too.
Recommendation
This movie is fun to watch, and if you enjoyed 101 Dalmatians then you might like getting to know Cruella de Vil.
Honestly, I don’t think this is one of my favourite movies to watch. I won’t say it was a waste of time but it just wasn’t exceptional.
I would recommend watching this as a family just to spend some time together especially because it’s a long movie!

There is action, crime, and some comedy so everyone will have bits they could enjoy.
